"New
Practice Opportunities for Psychologists:
Consultation Services for the
Disability Determination Services Program"
Featured Speakers:
J. Stephen Clifford, Ph.D., ABPP
John Microulis
Deborah A. Cannon
The
Workshop:
In August 1935, President Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act into
law. From this beginning has come the much expanded disability benefits
program for children and adults. Psychologists play a vital role in the
disability determination process and can participate in a variety of
ways. This introductory program is designed to introduce to and familiarize
psychologists with new skills and practice opportunities in the disability
field. These skills can be utilized in the disability determination process
here in Rhode Island, as well as in other states. This program is specifically
for psychologists.
Learning
Objectives -- Participants will:
1. Develop an understanding of the programs that the Social Security
Administration administers, and the definition of disability for
children and adults.
2. Learn about the many roles that psychologists may be involved
in during the disability determination process.
3. Gain knowledge about the consultative examination (CE) process,
the essential elements required of CE reports for children and
adults, and reimbursement.
4. Learn how to contact DDS Professional Relations officers throughout
the United States who can tell you about each states’ job
opportunities.
