Continuing Education: APA Attendance Rules

The Rhode Island Psychological Association Continuing Professional Education Committee is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor CE programs for psychologists. As an approved APA CE sponsor, RIPA has consented and agreed:

"...to abide by the criteria and procedures set forth in the American Psychological Association Continuing Education Sponsor Approval System Standards and Criteria, and Policies and Procedures Manual."

This document lists 7 standards that need to be followed as an APA- approved CE sponsor. Standard "F" specifically states that full attendance is required at all programs, and no partial credit may be provided.

"Principle: The awarding of CE credit is based on participation in learning activities offered in accordance with the standards described in this document."
Criteria & Technical Assistance Comments:
"...Sponsors must award CE credit for psychologists on the basis of one credit per hour of instructional time..."   "...Credit is awarded only for actual instructional time..."
"...Variable credit for partial attendance may not be awarded..."
"...Full attendance is required for all CE activities and Sponsors must have a method for ensuring full attendance..."
